Big Bend Ranch State Park is the largest park in the state and the centerpiece of a regional complex of state facilities. The park is generally organized in two parts: the River Road and the Interior. There are trails and campgrounds in each area, but the two only “roughly” connect.

The River Road (FM 170) is a paved road that winds about 50 miles along the valley of the Rio Grande between Lajitas (east) and Presidio (west).  One of the most scenic drives in Texas, it has many opportunities to enjoy the meandering river to the south and the spectacular mountains to the north where most of the park acreage is located.  The area is fantastic for rafting, camping, desert hiking, a quiet stroll, or a leisurely drive.
