RESOURCES

Our primary mission is to support the park and the park staff. That includes fundraising but also involves raising awareness of the dangers that lie within the park boundaries.

Big Bend Ranch State Park is a very remote park, the interior of the park is, at best, a two-hour drive to the nearest county hospital in Presidio and a three-hour drive to Big Bend Regional Medical Center in Alpine, most of which is on a dirt road. That’s a long way to drive if you’ve got a broken bone – or worse. The park interior and along the river road has no reliable cell phone service, which makes contacting emergency services difficult.

We don’t want to scare you, but we want to make sure you’re ready when you get here! To make your trip to The Other Side of Nowhere as fun as possible, it’s best to be prepared! We have compiled a list of resources for you to help plan your trip to have as much FUN as you can as SAFELY as possible.

After all, that’s what FRIENDS are for!
